"The Voucher deliverable we received through our collaboration with Turbine Logic was instrumental in advancing our technology from TRL 2 to TRL 4. Prior to this engagement, our system had been explored through concept validation and early-stage prototyping. With the support of the Voucher Program, we were able to refine our mechanical design, conduct third-party energy yield simulations, and better understand performance across varying wind conditions, critical for building integration in urban environments.
This progress has moved our wind energy façade system into the prototype testing phase and provided the technical foundation we need to validate performance metrics in real-world conditions. These deliverables have directly supported our next steps in commercialization, including wind tunnel testing and the module design for our mobile testing pilot.
Additionally, the modeling and analysis performed through the Voucher has enhanced our competitiveness for follow-on funding. We’ve since submitted other grant applications with a stronger technical narrative and clearer pathway to demonstration. The data and insights also support partner outreach, especially with architectural firms and municipalities seeking resilient, building-integrated energy solutions.
Thanks to the DOE and ENERGYWERX Voucher, our early-stage company is now more competitive, more technically informed, and better positioned to scale."

"This program should be the predominant model for government supported technology development in the US! Creating new commercial technologies requires the simultaneous development of many components and services. Voucher programs like ENERGYWERX support this in a way that maximizes the commercial impact while also minimizing the administrative cost- to both the funding agency and the companies receiving the support. Thus, programs like ENERGYWERX make the most efficient use of public funds to support new US-made technologies. I would be very happy to elaborate in any way that might help this or similar programs expand. We are in the US-made battery space and the ENERGYWERX program fits our industry's needs extremely well. Without them, the US has little chance of breaking foreign dependance on batteries.
Motivated by the announcement for the voucher, we had reached out to several potential recipient companies to explore their needs for our technology. Thus, the very announcement of the voucher program led to valuable (potential) customer interactions. From this we were able to build proposed Statements of Work (SOW) with those potential recipients. Then, once our voucher proposal was selected, it was an easy transition to delivering on the work. In fact, the exercise of creating the SOW for ENERGYWERX taught us how to approach other potential customers with similar services. A year later, we have signed six such SOWs to bring impactful improvement to US-made battery tech worth over $400K!"

"The ENERGYWERX program has been a great way to quickly get results for recipients who would otherwise not be able to proceed due to funding, or for recipients who would have proceeded much later (likely years later) due to funding limitations. It would be nice to see this funding/matching/Voucher mechanism used for other industries and applications. Examples include upstream oil & gas/enhanced recovery or clean coal. The ENERGYWERX team have been fantastic to work with. Their responses have been prompt, accurate and helpful. The slight changes to process between round 1 and round 2 (for VO2 in particular) were very helpful. In round 2, we were able to more accurately describe which companies and applications would be a good fit for our capabilities/offerings and avoid marginal or poor fits. We rejected a match in round 1, and accepted all matches in round 2. The better fits have led to more timely delivery of results in round 2. The 2nd round of matches was far more closely aligned with our capabilities than the 1st round."

"The Voucher Program is a valuable mechanism for strengthening partnerships between DOE-supported innovators and qualified private-sector providers. We think this has particular potential for small businesses moving from SBIR Phase I into Phase II or III, where timely access to expert services—especially technical, material, or financial insight beyond what TABA typically covers—can significantly influence project success. We are grateful for the structure and coordination ENERGYWERX provided and see real potential for this model to unlock new pathways for environmental and energy technology deployment."

"The Voucher Program is incredibly helpful for small businesses trying to apply Federal Tax Credit programs. In our case, we need the LCA to apply for the LCFS credits available through the State of California. Additionally, the model generated through the program is offers the capability of doing scenario analyses to identify how to minimize carbon intensity in our process."

"The program was very helpful in providing us a needed service at the right time. This program is very effective because it moves at the pace of small business, addresses specific needs, and has good service providers as potential partners. I would like to see more opportunities for support for feasibility studies and having academic partners as well for third party techno-economic analysis that is publishable. The experience was seamless. It is very easy to engage."
- Syzygy Plasmonics
"The program was very helpful as is, we have nothing we would change. Having detailed market information guided our funding and go to market strategy. Strategic Analysis was able to gather far more detailed market, competitor, and VC data than we would have been able to base on their resources."

"We found this program to be an exceptionally efficient way to offer recipients value add services for very reasonable sums of money. The program performs vetting on service providers effectively to ensure that the awarded funds go to quality services that are also within the scope of funding. The efficiency also results in more tax payer dollars landing right on target as opposed to funding overhead like grant writing, administration, and project management."

"The whole process worked out great. The application wasn't overly burdensome. The milestone payment structure was very fair and made it much easier to manage operations than traditional grant reimbursement structures. The invoicing requirements were clear and concise. The DOE team was very responsive, timely and provided extremely valuable feedback that made our end product better. The invoicing app was a little clunky but not hard to figure out. The processing videos were helpful. The ENERGYWERX team was in a tough situation managing the project pauses and restarts. They provided regular communications, even when there wasn't much to report, and were very responsive whenever I had a question."

"My organization is incredibly grateful not only for the opportunity to develop our programming to address the impact of the closure of the coal fired plant on our workforce and vet out new potential industries and ways to provide training and education to our workforce, but to also learn from others in the cohorts. This funding has allowed us to collaborate on a statewide level to share information and resources and also created a network for future collaborations. We understand the uncertainty that arose with the new administration on the federal level and are grateful for the continued opportunity to obtain our full funding."

"The ENERGYWERX and DOE teams were professional, responsive, and incredibly supportive during a time of uncertainty and shifting priorities. We truly appreciated the effort to keep us informed, the helpful meetings, and the steady guidance that kept our project moving forward—even amid changing deadlines and staff transitions. Every person we worked with brought both professionalism and a positive attitude, which made a big difference. Thanks for all you did to help make our project a success. We’re excited to continue this work and deeply grateful for the foundation you helped us build. We hope to work together again in the future."
- Vision Granted LLC
"I really like the format of the voucher program and its implementation. Allowing voucher providers to drive proposed scopes of work--with recipients then identifying which of those they need--is a great way to efficiently match capability to need. The federal spending pause in February did negatively impact small voucher providers, the implications of which will impact how I am able to participate in future opportunities, should there be any."
- Ridgeline Strategy
"As an early-stage clean tech startup, we’re incredibly grateful for the opportunity to participate in the DOE Voucher Program through ENERGYWERX. The support we received came at a critical moment in our product development cycle and helped us advance core research that would have been challenging to fund and coordinate otherwise. From our end, the program was refreshingly straightforward. The ENERGYWERX team and DOE partners made the process accessible and easy to navigate for a small team like ours. The reduced reporting and invoicing requirements on the recipient’s side gave us more time to stay focused on what matters most: building and validating our technology. Overall, this voucher program has been an outstanding experience. Thank you to DOE and ENERGYWERX for creating a structure that supports innovation at the earliest, riskiest stages, when it’s needed most. We hope to stay engaged and continue collaborating as we grow."
- Mack Research Corp.
"The program was effective at funding a key piece of work that we would not have been able to self-fund given the stage and funding level of our company at this point. I believe it will be a valuable brick in our building the company. Thank you!"
- Industrial Microbes
"The Voucher Program is a valuable mechanism for strengthening partnerships between DOE-supported innovators and qualified private-sector providers. We think this has particular potential for small businesses moving from SBIR Phase I into Phase II or III, where timely access to expert services—especially technical, material, or financial insight beyond what TABA typically covers—can significantly influence project success. Our greatest challenge was (outside of all our control) the timing of award finalization. The change in administration reverberated through multiple stakeholder agencies and introduced uncertainty and delays across program coordination, contracting, and related DOE engagement. As a result, progress toward our intended work was slowed and created downstream challenges for aligning internal and external timelines. We encourage DOE to consider prioritizing the Voucher Program as a fast-moving complement to SBIR funding, with clearer alignment to critical transition points such as Phase I to II or Phase II to III. The ability to quickly activate external support—e.g., valuation specialists, regulatory strategists, or engineering experts—can accelerate time to commercialization and increase the ROI of DOE’s broader innovation ecosystem. We are grateful for the structure and coordination ENERGYWERX provided and see real potential for this model to unlock new pathways for environmental and energy technology deployment."

"At Grand Summit Group, we have worked in the in the American tech innovation space for several decades, frequently working on publicly funded projects. We found the Voucher Opportunity program to be the most streamlined incarnation of publicly funded innovation we've ever experienced. This program shines because of its low application overhead, low administration cost, and it's ability to award many smaller and targeted chunks of funding to dozens of innovators of American technology. This is in contrast to more traditional grant funding which due to larger funding levels requires extensive applications often requiring third-party grant writing services, extensive contracting and accounting processes which are cumbersome for smaller organizations, and high administration costs which require project management of grant activities. As both taxpayers and players in tech innovation, we at Grand Summit Group would fully support more funding being deployed through this innovative Voucher Opportunity model."

"ENERGYWERX and the Voucher program have been excellent experience. I generally do TABA services and that is very helpful to awardees, but the Voucher has been excellent for the recipients who needed some added services. In this case, Skuld has received several investor pitch opportunities after redesigning three decks for them and doing the reach out. I believe this was a very successful engagement."

"The ENERGYWERX DOE Voucher Program has been a tremendous success. The ability to pair Recipients with Providers is a great initiative and the matching process has been very successful from our perspective. We hope to see more of these programs or expansion of this program in the future. This program supports Recipients who need support to charge their growth and supports Providers by filling demand gaps and working with smart new companies who can also open our eyes to new ideas."
- LHP Data Analytic Solutions LLC

"Thus far, I’m very impressed with the ENERGYWERX program. The project communication is very efficient. The Smartsheet invoicing system has worked well. The Smartsheet milestone completion evidence submission is concise and not burdensome and, generally, invoices have been paid in a timely manner. As a Voucher Recipient, I found the various client interactions to be quite varied. Some are fully engaged, and the projects move along swiftly. Some are less fully engaged, and the projects take a bit longer than expected."
- Moeller Ventures LLC
"ENERGYWERX did a really great job communicating all the changes with the new administration and being as thorough and upfront as possible. The timing was prompt and the directives were clear. Well run program."
- LHP Data Analytic Solutions LLC
"Voucher program with support from ENERGYWERX is a great enabler for small businesses looking for services that help move their technologies from lab and bench scale to closer to demonstration or commercial scales. The different type of services offered help small businesses to qualify their technologies with respect to safety, standards and codes, verification of claims, technology qualifications, carbon intensity, meeting regulatory requirements and so forth. Small businesses generally do not have internal skills or manpower to look into all aspects of technology development. The financial support and matching with businesses that have offered same services for large capital projects provides real insights to small businesses to take advantage of these learnings towards their development path."
- DNV
"This program is incredibly helpful for small businesses to achieve SME expertise to advance their projects. We find the technical providers selected are extremely knowledgeable in their fields of expertise and the deliverables that are provided are executed in a thorough professional manner. As a small business, Mote has not been able to hire a manager for outreach and stakeholder engagement. The plan Carbon Solutions adapted will serve as the basis for us to engage with local communities."
- Mote
"As a Voucher Recipient I continue to believe that the ENERGYWERX program operates quite efficiently. Once projects are identified, the engagement is straight-forward. The execution of the project is always dependent on the client, and some clients are more engaged than others. But the reporting of the milestone completions to ENERGYWERX is straight-forward and efficient."
- Moeller Ventures LLC
“The DOE/ENERGYWERX voucher program has been an outstanding vehicle to enable early-stage companies to validate the benefits of their processes and products, to identify improvement opportunities early in the design cycle and to help them advance towards commercialization more quickly. We have enjoyed working with the voucher recipients and found the program to be beneficial to both recipient and provider.”

"The Voucher program is great. The vendors provide very useful skillsets that typically are helping to overcome a very hard problem that is limiting technology development. Usually these are also inhibiting capital flow and can open more investors if it looks like the problem could get solved. For example, we have 2 Vouchers ongoing, one from each application period. They are focused on different problems that related to existential technical threats to our company's progress. As a small company we don't have the internal technical expertise to understand and solve those problems, nor do we have the time and internal resources to do a deep technical dive into them. However, the Voucher Recipient does have the skillsets and can perform the work much cheaper and more efficient than we could. It is like adding large number of short-term consultants with expertise and resources such as manufacturing. The result of these Voucher projects will be significant to the company. One would be determining if a certain technical pathway might have long term potential as a game-changer to the petrochemical industry. The other will help prototype a specialized system we could not do ourselves."
- Dimensional Energy
"As a first-time Voucher Provider, I found the program to be very innovative and useful. I hope the Voucher Recipient found the services we provided to be helpful as well. Working with ENERGYWERX was very helpful, especially as we all navigated the challenges of early 2025. Overall, I found the experience to be useful and rewarding."

"The DOE Voucher Program has been an invaluable resource for accelerating innovation in the carbon capture sector. We appreciate the structured approach and the emphasis on fostering collaboration between industry leaders and research organizations. The deliverables received through the DOE vouchers have had a profound impact on the development of our carbon capture technology. The support provided by DNV in certification testing has allowed us to validate the performance of our technology against international standards, significantly enhancing its credibility in the marketplace. Similarly, the field testing conducted with Johnston Engineering has generated invaluable real-world data that will guide the next phase of development. This data has enabled us to assess the performance of our carbon capture solution under diverse operating conditions, providing critical insights into efficiency, scalability, and reliability. These deliverables have not only advanced the technical capabilities of our technology but also positioned Mitico as a leader in the carbon capture space, driving further investment and partnerships."

“I just wanted to give a shout out to your team and ENERGYWERX for the successful completion of round 1 of 8 awards of $100k each for Capacity Building for Repurposing Energy Assets. The PIA allowed for fast dissemination of funds to communities that needed the funds immediately to address capacity building issues and come up with rudimentary roadmaps. ENERGYWERX made it easy to give these communities quick access to the funds upon completion of the structured tasks. We have had several success stories come out of this, but the two that stood out were the Rural Pennsylvania program and the Floyd County, KY program."
– Dr. Bhima
“The U.S. Department of Energy's ITAC implementation grant program allowed us to install four Big A$$ fans in our facility. Not only will this stratification system result in energy savings, but it has also increased morale by making a better and more comfortable work environment. Energywerx was excellent to work with throughout the process and were very supportive. I hope to have the opportunity to be involved with this type of grant in the future. Thank you very much!”

Thank you!"

The slight changes to process between round 1 and round 2 (for Voucher Opportunity 2 in particular) were very helpful. In round 2, we were able to more accurately describe which companies and applications would be a good fit for our capabilities/offerings and avoid marginal or poor fits. We rejected a match in round 1 and accepted all matches in round 2. The better fits have led to more timely delivery of results in round 2. The 2nd round of matches was far more closely aligned with our capabilities than the 1st round."

- Oceti Sakowin Power Authority
"As a Voucher Recipient I continue to believe that the ENERGYWERX program operates quite efficiently. Once projects are identified, the engagement is straight-forward. The execution of the project is always dependent on the client, and some clients are more engaged than others. But the reporting of the milestone completions to ENERGYWERX is straight-forward and efficient."
- Moeller Ventures LLC
"Thus far, I’m very impressed with the ENERGYWERX program. The project communication is very efficient. The Smartsheet invoicing system has worked well. The Smartsheet milestone completion evidence submission is concise and not burdensome and, generally, invoices have been paid in a timely manner. As a Voucher Recipient, I found the various client interactions to be quite varied. Some are fully engaged, and the projects move along swiftly. Some are less fully engaged, and the projects take a bit longer than expected."

"Working with ENERGYWERX and the Voucher Program has been highly rewarding and engaging. I would very much like to be considered for future Voucher Opportunities.
