Accelerating Intelligent Materials & Manufacturing Systems (AIM₂S)

The Accelerating Intelligent Materials & Manufacturing Systems (AIM₂S) Opportunity will support the integration of artificial intelligence technologies to address critical bottlenecks in the U.S. energy manufacturing industrial base while strengthening domestic manufacturing competitiveness and supply-chain resilience. Projects should advance AI-enabled solutions that accelerate the discovery, qualification, and integration of energy-relevant materials and/or develop and validate intelligent manufacturing systems through capabilities such as real-time monitoring, adaptive control, digital twins, sensor fusion, automation, and system-level optimization. Proposed projects should move promising mid-stage technologies toward production-relevant or pilot-scale validation and demonstrate measurable improvements in outcomes such as materials qualification time, throughput, product quality, yield, reliability, cost, scrap reduction, and process stability.
