Voucher Opportunity 2 - Performance Validation, Modeling, and Certification Support (Recipients) - Round 3

Information

Description

Are you a company (for-profit entity) who is working to commercialize an energy technology prototype/product or demonstrate it in a large energy infrastructure system? This Opportunity is designed to provide support in the form of a Voucher to obtain performance validation, modeling, and certification support, including failure-mode studies, testing to obtain industry-relevant certifications, system performance modeling, digital twin development, and other real-world testing environments. See below for additional info about relevant technology verticals, eligibility, and timeline.

‍
As part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act Technology Commercialization Fund, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC), and the Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED), in collaboration with EnergyWerx, are offering this Performance Validation, Modeling, and Certification Support Voucher Opportunity (VO-2) to eligible companies to increase commercial readiness (with a focus on value proposition and market acceptance) of advanced energy technologies. ‍

Objective

The relaunched DOE Voucher Program builds bridges between U.S. entrepreneurs, businesses, technology developers or other relevant partners and third-party voucher providers to advance commercialization and demonstration at scale of innovative energy technologies. VO-2 enables evaluation of technology performance under certification-relevant operating conditions, support for obtaining site and technology related certifications, accelerated lifetime testing to test for failure modes, and access to advanced modeling and digitization resources.

DOE has selected and pre-approved a cohort of Voucher Providers offering a variety of capabilities you might be interested in: Click Here to View the Pre-Approved Voucher Providers.

For this Voucher Opportunity, capabilities include:

  • Access to advanced modeling and digitization resources,
  • Testing to obtain industry-relevant certifications,
  • System performance validation and testing under certification-relevant operating conditions,
  • Digital twin development,
  • Testing in real-world environments,
  • Failure-mode studies and accelerated lifetime testing,
  • Assessments and validation of domestic manufacturers seeking to produce components and systems certified consistent to nuclear regulations (e.g., N-stamp).

When you apply, you will review the available capabilities and submit your preferences in the Voucher Recipient request form. If you find something that can be valuable to your company and that can enable your company to accelerate demonstration, commercialization, and deployment of your product, please consider applying to receive that in-kind support.

Note: The full list of pre-approved Voucher Provider capabilities is available here. Please carefully read through the descriptions, deliverables, required inputs, applicable technology area(s), and other related information for each capability. DOE will not allow changes to the high-level scope of work defined in the Voucher Provider’s capability submission.

Voucher Projects: Vouchers will be distributed as in-kind support, meaning EnergyWerx will directly reimburse the voucher provider for the work they have completed on behalf of the voucher recipients. DOE anticipates the value of the Voucher to be up to $250,000. However, the specific value depends on the specific capability and is discussed only between DOE and the Provider.

Only work related to specific technology areas will be eligible to receive a Voucher under this Opportunity.

List of eligible technology areas:

  • Advanced nuclear
  • Long-duration energy storage
  • Hydrogen
  • Advanced industrial technologies
  • Upgrades to the electric grid
  • Critical minerals
  • Geothermal

DOE anticipates issuing approximately 20 vouchers.

Voucher Recipients: Limited to for-profit companies with a product prototype that fits one of the technology areas of interest listed above and is nearly ready for pilot scale, large-scale demonstration, or commercialization. DOE is particularly interested in supporting companies working on critical mineral technologies that support the development of a robust and secure domestic supply chain ecosystem as well as working in advanced nuclear technologies. Moreover, DOE is interested in supporting companies who have completed DOE-funded research and development projects from any DOE office and need a boost to get to the next level. Preference will be given to potential Voucher Recipients who have not previously received support through this program.

This Opportunity is limited to one submission per requesting organization. In the case of multiple submissions, DOE will consider only the submission with the latest time stamp.

Pending availability of funds, additional submission windows may open in the future for this Voucher Opportunity.
